Petit Vour May 2017 Unboxing

Petit Vour is a monthly subscription box service where you receive 3-5 beauty related products every month for $15 a month in the United States ($23/month in Canada and and $25/month for worldwide). I especially like this box because all the products are cruelty-free and vegan. You usually receive at least one full sized product- which is always great in a subscription box! My box did arrive a little late this month due to me moving across the country and forgetting to change my address on their website-oops! But lets get into the unboxing!

Han Skin Care Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Sunset, Retail Value: $13
I have received another eyeshadow from this company before in another box and have really been loving that one, so I'm excited to receive another! This shade is described as a "peach champagne with a shimmer finish" and I agree with that description. This is beautiful all over the lid and you can also use it as a highlighter. It is super creamy, blendable, and pigmented. Definitely happy to have this in this months box!

Mullein and Sparrow Hydrating Face Mist Toner, Retail Value: $8
This is a product that has multiple uses. It can be used as a toner, to hydrate throughout the day, or to prep the skin before makeup. I have used this as a toner and a primer and it is really hydrating. It says it is for mature and dry skin and while I'm only 25, I definitely have very dry skin. I haven't used anything from this company before, so I will have to look into their skincare line more!

Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Muscle Bath and Shower Oil, Retail Value: $5
We did receive an oil from this company before and after using it, I thought it was just okay, but I will give this one a fair shot. It does smell very strongly of lavender- as most "de-stress" products do. You can use this either in the bath or shower. Since having hip surgery in March, I do have muscle weakness (that's what physical therapy is for!) and therefore have pain, so I'm hoping this will at least help a little.

Juara Java Plum and Avocado Nourishing Mask, Retail Value: $6
This mask is meant to to moisturize the skin- which sounds great for someone with dry skin. It does smell strongly of avocado as well. I unfortunately had an allergic reaction to this, so I will obviously not be using it again. If you have sensitive skin or have allergic reactions often, I'd advise checking out the ingredients list beforehand.

Total Retail Value: $32

Vegan Friendly Update Part Seven

Welcome to another vegan friendly update! Today I have responses from Cargo Cosmetics, Laura Geller, LA Splash Cosmetics, Skinn Cosmetics, Treat Organic Beauty, and Bad Medina. I have a long list of companies that I am awaiting responses from. I am also creating vegan lists for Makeup Revolution, SheaMoisture, LORAC, and Lipstick Queen. For other vegan lists and vegan updates, please check out the links at the bottom of the page.

Cargo Cosmetics is a brand we've all pretty much heard of, so I wanted to see if they had vegan friendly options. Their response:
"Some of the products in our line do contain animal derivatives such as carmine, beeswax, and petroleum. Full ingredients for all produts are listed on our website."

First, they did spell "products" incorrectly when they sent me the message, which is why I kept it the same here. I sent them a follow-up email to see if they had a full list of ingredients were animal derived. Their second response:
"The ingredients below are examples of non-vegan friendly ingredients. Please let me know if you are interested in any specific products and I can advise of the ingredients."

In the second email, they meant to say "above", not "below". I didn't particularly like their response, since they didn't really answer my question.

Some of Laura Geller's products were on sale during Ulta's 21 Days of Beauty event and I've heard good things about them. This was their response:
"Thank you for reaching out today. Please follow up with us if you would like to find out the Vegan friendly status of specific products."

Like many other companies, they want you to send them the products you're interested in and they'll tell you if it's vegan or not. I find this annoying since it would just be easier for the company to have a vegan list, rather than have potential customers repeatedly sending emails.

I first noticed this brand on HauteLook. Since I hadn't heard of them before, I emailed them and received the following response:
" Hello and thank you for contacting LASplash cosmetics we appreciate your interest in our products. We are cruelty-free. We never test on animals, we actually test all of our products on our employees. Everything is made here at our facility in Temple City, California.
Our Liquid Lipstick collections ( Lip Couture, Smitten, Studio Shine, and Velvet Matte)  do not contain any animal by-products, beeswax nor carmine colorants.
Although all of this information is not on our website, we are working on adding it.
Although we do not claim to be vegan we try to use non animal products. We do offer some vegan products which are labeled on our website.
I hope this answers  your question and if you have any other inquiries please feel free to let me know."

I appreciate their detailed answer and I'm excited that they have vegan options available!

This is yet another brand I saw on HauteLook and wanted to check out. I did have to email them two separate times to receive this response:
"We do not test on animals nor use animal ingredients."

Great to hear that they don't use animal ingredients! They are also on Hautelook again today starting at 8am PST.

Ok, last brand from Hautelook. They did back to me on the same day with this response:
"Our lip balms are made with beeswax. Everything else is vegan."

I purchased one of their creams after I received this response and will definitely have to look for them on Hautelook again!

I believe I first heard of this brand on YouTube (would anyone really be surprised?). They also responded quickly with the following message:
"Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, Our products are vegan friendly."

So happy to hear that they are vegan friendly as well!

Colourpop X Sonya Esman Collaboration Review

Sonya Esman is a twenty-one year old fashion and beauty vlogger who is based out of New York City. Sonya loves to travel and wanted to make a collection for people on the go. This collection also features two completely new products. These products dropped on Friday, May 5th and are still available for purchase.

Here Comes the Sun Super Shock Face Duo, $16
This is the first super shock palette that Colourpop has released and I'm kind of surprised that they did. In the past, they have stated that they didn't make palettes because the product would dry up. So I'm wondering if they changed the formula or if these are going to dry up faster. These are the two shades included in the palette:
Matryoshka: is described as a "warm peach with a gold sheen" and is in a satin finish.
Summer Bonfire: is described as a "champagne ivory" and is in a satin finish.

I've only had this palette for a few days and have noticed it breaking up in the middle of the product. I've never been a fan of the blush formula from Colourpop, so this isn't my favorite, but the highlighter is great! It blends easily and looks really nice on the skin. It didn't emphasize texture and gave a nice "glow from within" effect.

From left to right: Golden Gate Bridge, The Hidden Hills, Manhattan Coffee Run, and Moscow Sunrise

Gemini by Night Pressed Powder Shadow Palette, $18
I have a pretty good collection of the Colourpop pressed powder shadows and so far, I have loved them. This palette is no exception! These are the shades included:
Golden Gate Bridge: is described as a "warm nude" and is in a matte finish.
The Hidden Hills: is described as a "warm taupe" and is in a satin finish.
Manhattan Coffee Run: is described as a "mid-tone brown" and is in a matte finish.
Moscow Sunrise: is described as a "rosy copper" and is in a metallic finish.

The only shade that gave me a hard time was Manhattan Coffee Run. It was a little chalky when I swatched it. It also didn't blend as easily as the others. The other shades in this palette are super creamy, blendible, and look beautiful on the eyes. I especially love Moscow Sunrise!

From top to bottom: Toronto Terrace, Empire State of Mind, California Lovers, and St. Petersburg

Perks of Being a Wildflower, $18
This is a mini stix to go collection that includes the following shades (plus a lip primer):
California Lovers: is described as a "pink nude".
Empire State of Mind: is described as a "peach nude".
Toronto Terrace: is described as a "beige nude".
St. Petersburg: is described as a "rust brick red".

All of these are a matte formula. I will say that these are incredibly drying on the lips. Even with the primer, it felt incredibly drying. I have a few of their matte lippie stix, but these are more drying than that. Do you think I said drying enough? Also, the stix looks different than the other ones by Colourpop (picture below). I thought this would be great for applying, but it actually made the product super fragile. I've already broken three of them.

Overall, if you're wanting this collection, I would go for the eyshadows. They are definetly what stands out in this collection to me. If you like the Colourpop blushes, you may like the super shock palette. I will mostly be using that palette for the highlighter. The stix are not worth it in my opinion due to how drying they are and how easy it is to break them. I think Colourpop has similar colors that are a better formula. That is just my opinion though.

Vegan Friendly Update Part Six

Welcome to another vegan friendly update! If you'd like to see my other updates, please check out the links located at the bottom of the post. Today I have responses from Starlooks, Lipstick Queen, Flower Beauty, Crown, Evelyn Iona, and Wander Beauty. I have a long list of companies that I am currently waiting on a response from, so another update is already in the works! But for now, here are the responses from these brands about their cruelty-free status and/or vegan friendly options.

Starlooks
I first heard of this brand through a subscription service and while their website states that they are cruelty-free, it didn't list if they had any vegan products. Here is their response:
"We can not guarantee that every product is vegan, but all our products are 100% cruelty free!"

Obviously I'm disappointed that they are not vegan friendly and their response was vague. Oh well, there are other brands to choose from.

Lipstick Queen
This is a brand that I've seen advertised for Ulta on multiple occasions and their products look awesome (seriously, look at the packaging). This was their response:
"Lipstick Queen hereby states that whilst we do have many products that are suitable for both vegetarians and vegans there are products that do contain Beeswax and Carmine which are declared on the product ingredient listing."

First, you gotta love them keeping with the theme of their products. Second, I will be making a vegan friendly list based on the information they provided. Happy to find some vegan lipstick options!

Flower Beauty
This brand was developed by Drew Barrymore and while I was looking into the brand, there seemed to be a lot of confusion about their vegan options. Their response was short:
"Our products are not vegan but they are cruelty free."

I hope in the future the consider having vegan options, as it seems like they did in the past. Overall, I won't be purchasing from this brand.

Crown
I was aware that Crown was crulety-free and their brushes were vegan, but I was also interested in their cosmetics. Their response:
"Yes! All of Crown’s products are cruelty free, however not all of our products are vegan (Our Synthetic brush lines would be! Those are the Syntho, Infinity, and any brush in our Crown Pro, Studio Pro, and Studio lines that are listed as Taklon/Synthetic bristles in the description. Unfortunately, our makeup is not considered vegan, since there are some animal-derived products in them, such as beeswax.) "

So if you only purchase vegan options, Crown would be a good option for brushes, but unfortunately not for their cosmetics.

Evelyn Iona
I can't remember where I heard about this brand- it was probably YouTube. Anyways, their products look amazing and I wasn't sure of their crulety-free status or if they had vegan options. Their response:
"Yes, all of our products are cruelty free. Most of our products are vegan. Our lip glosses are not due to having bees wax in them (all other ingredients are vegan) we are also working bees wax out of our formulas by 2018. "

I'm happy to hear that most of their products are vegan and they are planning on phasing out non-vegan ingredients. Will definitely have to look into this brand more!

Wander Beauty
Before switching to vegan cosmetics, I had purchased something from this brand and liked it. I couldn't find anything about vegan friendly options on their website. This is their response:
"Our products are not vegan because we use cruelty free beeswax and propolis. Please let us know if you have any more questions, we are happy to help!"

It's a shame they don't have vegan options since their products are a nice quality. Maybe they will in the future?

That's all I have for now! Thank you for checking out my blog!

I also have a new YouTube channel! If you'd like to check it out, please click here.

I also have a running cruelty free list going- click here.

Nourish Beauty Box May 2017 Unboxing

Hello friends and welcome to my blog! I have been on a temporary hiatus for the past few weeks because I was with my family, grieving the loss of my grandma. In that time period I needed to step away from social media, but I'm back now! Thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts. I miss grandma everyday. Thank you for allowing me to take a break to grieve with my family.

Onto happier topics....

The Nourish Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box that is 100% cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegan. For $34.95 a month, you receive four full sized products. This is my second box from Nourish Beauty Box and last month I was really impressed, so I have high hopes this month! If you are interested in the box, you can click here.

As you can see, mine arrived broken, but it is still usable. It was actually pretty easy to repair and I like the product, so I'm not upset about it. I have another blush from this company and it is one of my favorites, so I'm excited to try another blush from them! It smells really good, is creamy, and easy to apply. It's very pigmented so you don't need to apply a lot to your cheeks. I did contact Nourish Beauty Box about receiving a broken product and I am currently waiting on a response.

Nourish Nails Nail Polish in Live the Moment, Retail Value: $12.50
This nail polish brand is from Nourish Beauty Box themselves. We did receive one of these last month as well. I really like this shade, but I had the same problem with this nail polish as the one I received last month. It applies nicely and dries quickly, but it does chip pretty easily. Maybe there's a trick to making it last longer?

Mr. B's Necessities Calm/Sleep Aromatherapy Roll On, Retail Value: $11.95
This contains essential oils such as lavender, orange, sweet almond oil, and jojoba oil. You're meant to place it on your temples, neck, and chest to help you sleep. It is also safe for children and pregnant women. I used this last night since I sometimes have trouble going to sleep and I think it helped! I have tried a few products with lavender to help induce sleep, so I'm happy to receive this. Side note, lavender is also good for anxiety and PTSD (multiple doctors have told me this). Of course I recommend seeking professional help, but it is a good supplement to help.

Peony Cosmetics Prayers Answered Facial Polish, Retail Value: $45.00
Last month we were given another skincare item from this brand and I've been using that everyday, so I'm excited to receive something else from this brand! Looking at their website, this item is currently sold out. The first thing I have to say about this is that it smells amazing! It also has a creamy consistency- for some reason I thought it was going to be a paste. I used this last night and could feel it working already! It claims to help fade blemishes, so I'll have to keep using it to see if it does over time.

Total Value: $83.45
