Vegan Update Part Ten

In an effort to find cruelty-free and vegan makeup, I often email companies on their policies for animal testing and if their products are vegan-friendly. For past vegan updates, please follow the links at the bottom of the page. I also have a complete list of cruelty free and vegan options from companies I have emailed- which you can find here.

I first saw this brand on Ulta and was curious about them. Their website does state that they are cruelty free. They also answered me quickly with this reply:
"Thanks for your request.
Our products are cruelty free, but no vegan."

Since they don't have vegan options, I will unfortunately not be purchasing from this brand.

This brand is super affordable and I was really hoping they'd have some vegan options. Their website does state that they are cruelty free. They also answered the same day with this reply:
"Thank you for contacting City Color with your inquiry..
Could you be specific about which products that you are refereeing? So I can give you the correct answer.
Have a lovely day."

I personally don't like when brands want you to email them about every single product, so I think I'll be passing on them for now.

Sugar Cosmetics
I can't remember where I first heard of this brand, but I couldn't find any information about them. Their response:
We would like to inform you that we do not test our ingredients or finished products on animals - neither do we work with entities who do so. Also, we don't give a guarantee of 100% vegan products as few products in our range might contain beeswax etc ingredients."

I followed up and asked if they had a list of all ingredients that are vegan friendly. They answered the same day:

"Request you to please let us know the names of products the category you are looking for so that we can help you with the details of the same."

As with City Color Cosmetics, I will be passing on this brand for now.

This brand I've seen mentioned a few times on YouTube. They answered the same day with this response:
"Many thanks for your email and interest in our luxury brand.

In response to your question, the glycerin in our UK manufactured products are all vegetable sourced glycerin.  Our UK manufactured products are all displayed on our website at www.gracecole.co.uk

We have a Luxury Bathing Gifting Range that is found in the market place, and these products contain Glycerin which is potentially derived from animal sources.  These are not sold via our website.
Some of our products contain animal derived by-products, such as Lanolin, Beeswax and Mel Honey extracts.

We at Grace Cole are Against Animal Testing, and our products proudly bare the symbol to indicate this, in compliance with European Law, Regulation (EC) 1223/2009."
I appreciate the detailed response and I'm happy that they are cruelty free and have vegan options!

This is a brand I've seen around a lot lately. They are cruelty free. I had to email them on March 1st, March 24th, May 22nd, June 11th, June 26th, July 19th, August 3rd, and August 22nd to get a response. Their response:
" Thank you for contacting NOTE Cosmetics, I am happy to assist you with your question regarding our products.

While our products are high quality and manufactured in our own medical grade plant in Europe, we do not guarantee they are vegan.

We hope we have answered all your questions.  Let us know if we can help you with something else."
I'm disappointed that it took me emailing them so many times to get a response and that they don't clearly state their vegan options.

I can't remember where I first saw this brand, but I couldn't find anything about this brand. They responded quickly with this response:
Thank you so much for reaching out to us! All of our products are cruelty free and gluten free. Only one of our products is not vegan, which is our Rescue Balm. That product contain beeswax. All of our other products are vegan!"

I'm so happy that they are cruelty free and have so many vegan options!

This brand cruelty free and I was curious about their vegan options. They emailed me back on the same day:
"Hi Elizabeth, Thank you for your message. Yes we are, none of our ingredients are animal product derived. :)"

This is great news and I'll have to check them out more in the future!

I didn't know anything about this brand, so of course I had to email them. They answered the same day with this response:
"Thank you for your email inquiry. The Village Company is strongly against testing products here or at outside laboratories on animals. All of our products and ingredients are ‘cruelty-free’, although our Bath Shoppe Milk Bath products do contain animal derived ingredients such as milk protein. This statement is noted on our product labels because we know how important it is to so many consumers."

I'm happy that they are cruelty free with vegan options!

Books I've Read This Month August 2017

Welcome my fellow book lovers to my blog! Now is when I list the books that I have been enjoying the past month. If you have any books recommendations, please let me know below. This month I mainly focused on finishing the PLL series and books from authors whose books I've previously read.

1. Deadly by Sara Shepard
2. Toxic by Sara Shepard
3. Vicious by Sara Shepard
4. Ali's Pretty Little Lies by Sara Shepard
This month I finished the Pretty Little Liars series. I also read Ali's Pretty Little Lies that is told from Ali's point of view. I did like how the books ended better than how the TV series. If you haven't read the books, I would highly suggest checking them out.

5. The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon
This is by the same author of Everything, Everything- which is another book I enjoyed. The events in this book take place mostly in one day and is focused around two main characters- Natasha and Daniel. The two have just met, but feel a connection over the course of the day. I enjoy this author's writing style and how she brings important issues into her series. Would definitely recommend!

6. Fever by Mary Beth Keane
This book is told from the point of view of Typhoid Mary. Typhoid Mary was a healthy carrier of Typhoid Fever in the early 1900's who was transmitting the disease unknowingly  through her cooking. I thought this was interesting since it was told from her point of view and you really got to see her as an actual person instead of some historical figure. I've never read anything by this author, but will definitely need to check out her other writing.

7. Holding up the Universe by Jennifer Niven
This is the same author of All the Bright Places. Since I really enjoyed that book, I thought I would like this one as well. This book follows Jack and Libby who are faces very different obstacles in high school. One thing I really like about this author is that she somehow takes an otherwise predictable premise and make it unpredictable. Would highly recommend!

8. Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
This is the same author of Gone Girl and Sharp Objects- both of which I have previously read. I love her writing style and her books are definitely more on the creepy side. With Halloween coming up, I'm starting to read more books like this one. This follows a character named Libby whose family was killed when she was very young. As an adult, she starts to question who the actual killer is and revisits old memories in order to find out the truth. I couldn't put this book down and would recommend to anyone who likes a good mystery.

50 Book Challenge Tally: 37

Love Goodly August/September Unboxing

Love Goodly is a subscription service that offers full-sized cruelty free, vegan, and eco-friendly products delivered to your door every other month for $29.95. Each box has a retail value of over $75.00- which is pretty great! Also, 5% of the sales go to a farm sanctuary. If you're interested in the box, you can click here.

Johnny Concert Glamour Eyeshadow in Martinis & Bikinis, Retail Value: $15.00
I've never tried anything from this brand and I'm always happy to discover new brands! There were ten possible shades we could receive this month. My eyeshadow came a little broken, unfortunately, but I can still use it. It is more of a lime green color and I don't normally wear shades like this, but I'll try it out!

Z Natural Life Deodorant, Retail Value: $9.99
I feel like a lot of subscription services have been sending me deodorant lately- y'all trying to tell me something? I've never heard of this brand, but I'm always down for trying out a new deodorant!

KINDri Los Angeles Organic Beauty Oil, Retail Value: $45.00
This is the most expensive item we're receiving this month. You can use this on your face for extra moisture or to remove makeup remover. I usually mix oils with a moisturizer since I have dry skin and I like the extra boost of moisture.

Red & Howling Custom Frenchie Print, Retail Value: $9.00
I don't know how to feel about this item, honestly. It's kind of cute, but it's not really something I can use. Even for decor purposes, it doesn't fit my style. Maybe give it to someone who really loves bulldogs?

Garden of Life Organic Plant Based Protein Bar, Retail Value: $2.95
I already ate this before taking pictures of everything- don't judge me. I was disappointed by this not because it wasn't good, but because I'd rather receive a beauty item rather than a food item.

Total Retail Value: $82.00

Overall, I'd say this box was just okay. Nothing in it really excited me, but it wasn't bad either.

Nourish Beauty Box Unboxing August 2017

The Nourish Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box that is 100% cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegan. For $29.95 a month, you receive four full sized products. This is probably my favorite subscription that I receive! If you are interested in the box, you can click here.

This product feels really creamy and is very pigmented. I don't know if I'll like it as a bronzer, but I think it would make a pretty eyeshadow. I think if you have a darker skintone, this could work as a highlighter as well. I'll have to see how it looks on me!

Nourish Nails in Breathe & Let Go, Retail Value: $12.50
We receive a nail polish in every box and this month we received a very bright blue shade. This is perfect for summer in my opinion. I've been wearing shades like this a lot lately so I'm happy to receive this!

Thistle Organic Beauty Absorb Face, Retail Value: $21.00
I've never heard of this brand before, so I'm curious to try out one of their products. This is meant to be used all over the face as a setting powder. I swatched this on my hand and it felt a little drying to me. It says it's unscented, but I think it smells like the beach- not a bad thing! I kind of wish it had a shifter in it though so I couldn't make a mess as easily. I'll try it all over my face and for baking and see what I think.

Peony Cosmetics Blemish Zapper, Retail Value: $26.00
Everything I receive from this brand smells amazing. This smells very earthy- it has witch hazel and tea tree oil listed in the ingredients. I have dry skin that is prone to acne, so I think this will really work for my skin type. You're meant to leave it on overnight and wash it off in the morning. Definitely excited for this!

Total Retail Value: $75.50

Vegan Update Part Nine

In an effort to find cruelty-free and vegan makeup, I often email companies on their policies for animal testing and if their products are vegan-friendly. For past vegan updates, please follow the links at the bottom of the page. I am also creating vegan lists for Makeup Revolution, MUA, Shea Moisture, LORAC, Lipstick Queen, and Freedom. I'm also waiting on responses from Fiona Stiles, Note Cosmetics, Iman, Laritzy, Marula, Mario Badescu, Gorgeous Cosmetics, Cougar Cosmetics, Cosmoholic, Novex, City Color Cosmetics, and Fizz & Bubble.

Jordana does say that they are cruelty free on their website. I emailed them on March 13th, May 22nd, and June 11th. I received this response on June 12th:
"Thank you for you interest in Jordana Cosmetics. Some of our cosmetics are vegan friendly but not all."

I did also find out that there are only four ingredients in their cosmetics that are not vegan friendly: carmine, guanine, lanolin, and beeswax. From this information, I will be making a vegan friendly list.

This brand also says on their website that they are cruelty free. I emailed them on March 1st, March 24th, May 22nd, and June 11th. They answered me on June 11th with this response:
"Not all of our products are vegan, however we are more than happy to provide item-specific ingredient lists. Just let us know the item number and we can send you the ingredient list, no problem. :)"

I personally am tired of companies that don't just tell you what products or ingredients are vegan friendly and want you to message every single product. So unless I'm super interested in something from them, I probably won't be following up with any emails.

I kept hearing people talk about this brand because they received something in their BoxyCharm boxes. I emailed them on March 13th, March 29th, May 22nd, June 11th, and June 30th. Finally got an answer on July 12th. This was their response:
" The majority of our products are Vegan, however not all are. We use Manuka Honey in several of our skin care products and in our colored pigments we sometimes use carmine rather then an unnatural and potentially skin damaging substitute. The reason we have chosen to use these ingredients is that we strive to produce a product that is as natural as possible. We are, however, cruelty free and certified Leaping Bunny. Here is a link to our page:
http://www.leapingbunny.org/content/naked-cosmetics
It includes a list of countries we currently sell in; we do not currently sell in any countries that require animal testing by law."
I'm happy that most of their products are vegan friendly and that they're vegan friendly. Will have to look into them more.

This is another brand I heard of through BoxyCharm. Their website does state that they are cruelty free. I emailed them on May 24th, June 26th, and July 19th. I received this response on July 19th:
"Thank you so much for reaching out to us. My name is Sue and work on behalf of Measurable Difference Customer Service Dept. Unfortunately, our products are not vegan but they are cruelty free. Let me know if you have any further questions."

Because they are not vegan friendly, I won't be purchasing from this brand.

This brand states on their website that they're cruelty free. They answered me quickly, which I appreciate. This was their response:
"Thank you so much for reaching out & for your interest in our products! Our products are not officially vegan at this time. However, we are 100% cruelty- free, and free of Talc, d5/ Parabens, Synthetic Fragrances, & Petro Chemicals. "

I'm happy that they're cruelty free and hope they eventually will switch to vegan friendly.

I saw this brand on Ulta's website and thought they looked interested. They also answered me quickly. This was their response:
"We're moving towards providing more information on products that are animal testing free, but we unfortunately do not have a current list of specific products (we're working on it!).

All our private brand products (I'm Meme, Pony Effect, Nooni, I Dew Care) are animal testing-free."

I'm kind of confused by this response- as I'm sure you are. I think I'll pass on this brand for now.

I also have a new YouTube channel! If you'd like to check it out, please click here.

I also have a running cruelty free list going- click here.
