Books I've Read This Month October/November 2017

Welcome my fellow book lovers to my blog! Now is when I list the books that I have been enjoying the past month. If you have any books recommendations, please let me know below.

 1. Turtles All The Way Down by John Green
I preordered this book a while ago, so naturally I had to read it as soon as it arrived. I have read another one of John Green's books and enjoyed it. Like his other novels, this brings diverse characters together in an interesting plot-line. I also appreciated the way Green talks about mental illness in this book. If you've been looking into this, I would definitely recommend it.

2. Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu
I purchased this book after watching a review on YouTube and I was not disappointed. The main character starts this booklet series in her high school to address the sexism in her school. I think this book is really empowering for young girls and even though I graduated high school a while ago, I still enjoyed this book.

3. Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Most of the time stories that have to do with Jack the Ripper are told from a man's perspective, so I was happy to see one from a woman's. The main character is an apprentice with her uncle and helps with the autopsies of the women slain by the ripper. This is an interesting take on the ripper and I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good murder mystery.

4. Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco
This is the sequel to Stalking Jack the Ripper. We follow our characters to a school where students practice autopsies and learn about human biology. Some strange deaths take place and our main character finds herself caught up in the middle of it. I enjoyed this book as much as the first and would definitely recommend.

5. Trick or Treat Murder by Leslie Meier
This was a reread for me that I haven't read since high school. I didn't remember anything about this book, so it was like I was reading it for the first time again. This is a true murder mystery that anyone who is a fan of the genre would enjoy.

6. The Silence of Ghosts by Jonathan Aycliffe
This is a book I would not recommend reading in the middle of the night by yourself. Seriously, don't do. It is a classic case of someone moving to a new house and strange things start occurring. I really enjoyed this book and found it appropriate for the Halloween season.

7. Past Crimes By Glen Erik Hamilton
This is a book I received in a subscription service. I didn't think I would like this very much, but I flew through it. Our main character comes home after being gone for the Army for a decade and finds that his grandpa has been murdered. He starts to investigate his grandpa's past and what lead him to be killed.

8. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
This book is one that was recommended to me by multiple people. This gives me Moulin Rouge vibes in the sense that it creates a world that is within our own, but is also it's own. I really enjoyed how this book is written and cannot recommend it enough.
 9. The 3rd Woman by Jonathan Freedland
This is a murder mystery in which we follow a journalist whose sister was murdered. At first everyone thinks that it is not a murder at all, but a drug overdose. She starts to see similarities between a few deaths and starts to investigate. Definitely a good read if you like murder mysteries.
 10. Eternal Sonata by Jamie Metzl
This book takes place in the near future, but technology has really changed. Some scientists end up missing and our main character gets himself mixed in with it. I read this book in a day, so I clearly liked it.
 11. Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth
This is the same author of the Divergent series and I really liked those books, so I had to pick this one up. This gives me Star Wars vibes because this world has different planets and societies that have their own cultures. They have something called "the current" that reminds me of the force and everyone has something called a currentgift. There is a sequel coming out next year and I can't wait to read it.
 12. Sabriel by Garth Nix
I had started this book a while ago and never finished it, so I thought it was finally time to read it. This is the first book in a trilogy and I definitely need to check out the other ones after reading this book. Sabriel is a necromancer whose father goes missing and she must travel to the Old Kingdom to try and save him. If you're a fan of fantasy and magic, you would really enjoy this book.
 13. Shopaholic & Sister by Sophie Kinsella
This is one of the books in the Confessions of a Shopaholic series. I am trying to finish this series by the end of the year and I have been enjoying it so far. It is light hearted and I can get through them pretty quickly. They are different than the movie, but I still really enjoy them.

14. Pretty Little Secrets by Sara Shepard
This is another series I have been trying to finish before 2018. This is the last book I had to read in the series and I overall like this series. I did watch the tv series and I actually prefer the books. They are different than the show, but I think they honestly make more sense. If you watched the show, you know what I'm talking about.

Yeps & Nopes November 2017

Welcome to my November 2017 "yeps and nopes" of the month! This list is comprised of items that I have been loving this month and some that just didn't work for me. I am not sponsored or paid in any way to review these products. All the products mentioned are cruelty-free and vegan.

Yeps

This palette is mostly neutrals with a few pops of color. I love using this palette for everyday looks and have been using it a lot. The shades are very pigmented and blendable. I did a full review of this palette on my channel if you're interested.

This is a palette I originally wasn't going to purchase because of the price, but now that I have it, I'm really happy that I went ahead and purchased it. You can create so many looks with this palette and I definitely think it is worth the price. I also did a review of this palette if you'd like to see swatches.

From top to bottom: Circles and Goth Topic
This is a newer addition to my collection and I think it is perfect for the fall/winter season. It's somewhere between a pink and red, but also has some purple.

This is a lipstick that I have been wearing almost nonstop and is the perfect vampy shade. I also love this formula because it is very long-lasting.

This highlighter is more subtle and a glow from within highlighter. I've been using this on my no-makeup makeup days. Essence is also super affordable!

I received this in a subscription service and it is the first thing I have tried from this brand. I especially like using this on my hands since my skin has been so dry with the colder weather. I especially like this because it sinks into the skin instead of leaving a residue like a lot of lotions do.

This is a full coverage concealer that I've heard is a dupe for the Tarte shape tape. It has been a while since I've tried the shape tape, but this is definitely full coverage. If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, I would recommend this!

Nopes
My main problem with this spray is how it sprays. It sprays so aggressively that it leaves liquid on your face and ruins your makeup.

My first problem with this is that it didn't do anything when I used it. The other problem I had with this is that it would make me breakout when I used it. I don't think this is a product I would recommend because it is expensive and I don't think it is worth it.

I did a full review of this palette on my channel if you're interested. This formula is different than the individual shades and I wish they had kept it the same. It emphasizes texture and dryness on my skin and is more of a glittery highlighter.

Kat Von D Saint & Sinner Palette Review

This is a palette I have been waiting for since Kat Von D originally provided a sneak peak. The packaging looks amazing and it all hand-drawn by Kat. It is meant to look like cathedral windows on old Gothic churches. I really like the concept of this palette and think it is really unique. It does retail for $62.00. This palette is cruelty free and vegan.

Here is what the outside packaging and box that it comes in looks like:

Here are a few pictures of the inside of the palette:

This palette comes with 24 shades total- 12 on the saint side and 12 on the sinner side. It has four finishes- metallics, mattes, pearlized, and glimmer. The saint side contains more neutral, everyday shades, while the saint side has bolder shade choices.

Swatches of the saint side:

Swatches of the sinner side:

All of the shades swatched really well and didn't require me to build it up. I also didn't use primer and I used natural lighting. There are 7 mattes total, 7 metallics, 8 pearlized, and 2 glimmer shades. The pearlized look like they're a matte with glitter, so they still work well in the crease.

Overall, I am really happy with this purchase. I have been using it constantly and you can create so many looks with it. It think if you're not into these shades, you can pass over it since it is $62.00, but if you like the shades and would use it, I would highly recommend it.

Nourish Beauty Box Unboxing November 2017

The Nourish Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box that is 100% cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegan. For $29.95 a month, you receive four full sized products. This is probably my favorite subscription that I receive! If you are interested in the box, you can click here.

Nourish Nails in Be Gentle, Retail Value: $12.50
We receive a nail polish in every box. I personally don't like pink (or pastels for that matter), so I don't think this is the shade for me. Will be passing it along to someone else. But if you like pink, this would be a good option!

Peony Cosmetics Eyebright, Retail Value: $24.00
Everything I've tried from this brand smells amazing and works really well. This doesn't have too much of a scent, but feels really nice on the skin. Definitely excited to use!

I haven't heard of this brand before and they're an Etsy brand! I love finding Etsy/Indie brands like this, so I'm excited for this. It smells amazing and feels super hydrating on my skin. Since I have dry skin, I definitely appreciate this!

I love highlighters, so I'm always happy to receive one in a box. This is more of a pinky shade that I wouldn't normally go for, but it is really pretty. It's more on the natural looking side, but so far so good! It feels really creamy and I haven't noticed it emphasizing texture or dryness.

Total Retail Value: $68.50

Love Goodly October/November Unboxing

Love Goodly is a subscription service that offers full-sized cruelty free, vegan, and eco-friendly products delivered to your door every other month for $29.95. Each box has a retail value of over $75.00- which is pretty great! Also, 5% of the sales go to a farm sanctuary. If you're interested in the box, you can click here.

Mindful Skincare Blueberry Mask, Retail Value: $30.00
I love masks and this smells amazing! I used this for the first time yesterday and it felt really nice on my skin. It does smell like blueberries, but isn't overpowering. It didn't feel too harsh on my sensitive skin either. I've only used it once, but so far so good!

I actually received this in a different subscription service a few months ago and when I do remember to use it- I like it. It smells like lavender and I love lavender. Nice to have a backup!

Bella Pierre Blush in Autumn Glow, Retail Value: $35.00
I already own this blush in this exact shade, but it is one of my favorites. It's the only loose blush I have, but I love it. It's perfect for this time of year!

Moondani Mystic Mint Breath Spray, Retail Value: $8.50
I 100% do not like mint- which is probably why I didn't care for this. I do think it's an interesting item to include, but will pass it along to someone else since I'm not a fan of mint.

100% Pure Blush Brush, Retail Value: $19.00
Brushes are hands down one of my favorite things to receive in boxes. I also like that they included a blush and a brush to go with it. I've never tried a brush from this brand, but it seems like really good quality.

Total Retail Value: $104.00

We've received a few things from this brand in the past and I've liked everything I've tried from them. These feel really creamy and are very pigmented. Definitely happy to receive this!

Nourish Nails in Kindness is King, Retail Value: $12.50
We receive a nail polish in every box and I love this shade! It's definitely a unique shade that I don't have in my collection. It looks like a metallic black and I can't wait to try it!

Alma Botanicals Fresh Bloom Mask, Retail Value: $ 22.00
This is a powder face mask that you mix in with water and rinse off after 15 minutes. I've used it a few times now and I really like it! I have sensitive skin and a lot of clay masks irritate my skin, but this one didn't at all and my face felt really smooth and hydrated after using it.

Peony Cosmetics Celery Heart, Retail Value: $30.00
This is a moisturizer so naturally I'm excited about this since I have dry skin. I've used it a few times now and I really like it! It's definitely a thicker consistency, but doesn't feel heavy on my skin. It also smells really good. Will continue to use this product!

Total Retail Value: $79.50
