Books I've Read This Month September 2017

Welcome my fellow book lovers to my blog! Now is when I list the books that I have been enjoying the past month. If you have any books recommendations, please let me know below.

1. Dracula The Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt
This is a book I received in a a subscription service and for some reason, didn't know this book. This is a sequel to Dracula that takes place 25 years after the original events of Dracula. I haven't read the original Dracula in a while, but I think this gives you enough back story that you still know what is happening. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves horror and vampires!

2. Sting by Sandra Brown
This is another book that I received in a subscription service that I hadn't heard of before. It's about a sting that goes wrong and follows the characters as they try to find missing people and criminal masterminds. This book had so many twists and turns, that I couldn't put this one down.

3. One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus
I mainly bought this book because I kept hearing people talk about it. It's like Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars. When a classmate dies in detention, the other students with him become suspects in his death. However, all of them have secrets that they have been hiding and are trying to prevent from coming to the surface. I did guess the ending about half way through the book, but I still thought it was interesting and a good read.

4. Shopaholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella
5. Shopaholic Ties the Knot by Sophie Kinsella
These are the second and third books in the Confessions of a Shopaholic series. I read the first one a while ago and thought I'd continue with the series. I saw the movie when it first released and while many things stay the same in the movie, a lot is different. I've been enjoying the books and will continue the series in October.

6. Where the Light Falls by Allison Pataki and Owen Pataki
This is one of my favorite author's, so I was very excited to see her releasing a new book. This novel takes place during the French Revolution as the country deals with the aftermath of the Bloody Summer and trying to figure out how to organize their new Republic. I haven't finished this book yet (but probably will by the end of the month), but I already like it.

Vegan Cuts Quarterly Makeup Box- Autumn 2017

This is a subscription service through Vegan Cuts where you receive at least four full sized products that retail for $70 or more. Vegan Cuts also has a monthly beauty box that I haven't tried, but I really wanted to check out their makeup box. Mostly because it's JUST MAKEUP. I don't like getting too many skincare items because I have such sensitive skin, so this looked perfect for me. This subscription is quarterly and is $39.95 per quarter. Not a bad deal! If you're interested in this box, you can click here.

Pacifica Cherry Kisses Hydrating Lipstick Wipes, Retail Value: $6.00
This is something I've been wanting to try, so I'm happy we received it in the box this month! I've been wearing matte lipsticks a lot lately and these will come in handy. I tried them last night with some stubborn lipstick and it worked well.

TMF Pure Brow Pencil, Retail Value: $24.00
This is something I knew we were receiving beforehand and we were allowed to pick a shade. Unfortunately, they didn't have a shade for redheads so I'll be passing this to someone else.

100% Pure Cocoa Butter Semi-Matte Lipstick in Currant, Retail Value: $29.00
I love everything I've tried from this brand- plus all their makeup smells amazing. The formula of this feels nice. I'll have to try it out more to see if I like this particular shade on me.

Rejuva Minerals Water Resistant Mega Lash- Lengthening & Strengthening Mascara, Retail Value: $16.00
I always love receiving a mascara in a subscription service. The packaging on this seems really nice and the wand looks like something I would like. Definitely excited to try this out!

Bellapierre Cosmetics Contour & Highlight Pro Palette, Retail Value: $50.00
I was so surprised to see such an expensive item in this box! These feel like they're really good quality and I can't wait to try it.

Total Retail Value: $125.00

Karity Just Peachy Palette Review

With so many peachy-toned palettes coming out, I wanted to try one for myself. I haven't tried anything else from this brand, so I really didn't know what to expect. This retails for $25.00 and you are getting fifteen shades with this palette. Within this palette there are six shades that are more on the matte side, while the rest are shimmers. The shades range from the lighter end of the peach spectrum to the darker shades. Because of this, there are many looks that can be created with this palette. So lets get into the specifics!

The outside packaging is a standard cardboard packaging that seems sturdy. It also has a peach imprinted on it and the shade names on the back of the packaging.

The inside also lists the shade names. Here's a closer look at the shades:

Moving onto individual rows- starting with the first row:

From top to bottom: glow up, creamy, princess, totally sweet, and yummy

From top to bottom: freshly picked, cobbler, warm n' fuzzy, delicious, and om nom

From top to bottom: atlanta, juicy, organic, sliced up, and fruity

All the shades swatched really well and I was really impressed with the pigmentation of all of them. On the eyelids, they went on easily and blended nicely. With the matte shades, there is a little bit of kick-up, but not anything too bad. I didn't notice any fallout with either the mattes or shimmer shades. They also lasted all day on my eyelids. Overall, I am really impressed with this palette and would highly recommend it if you are looking for a palette with these kinds of shades!

If you're interested in the palette, you can click here.

Sephora Cruelty Free and Vegan Updates

This is where I post responses from companies while I'm trying to update my cruelty free and vegan friendly brands from Sephora. If you're interested in that list, you can find it here.

Last Updated: September 27th, 2017

Anthony
"Anthony products are never tested on animals or insects, and we strive to only work with partners who uphold the same philosophy."

AQUIS
"Thank you for reaching out to AQUIS.  Yes, our towels are vegan friendly.  Our towels are made of 80% Polyester and 20% Nylon.  And never tested on animals."

Art of Shaving

"We don't have any official labeling for cruelty free. However, we don't test our products on animals. We have no intentional animal derivatives in our shaving products, but they are processed in factories that may use animal derivatives such as lanolin (which is cruelty free, but animal derived)."

Bio Ionic

"Yes our products are cruelty free and vegan friendly."

Bite Beauty
"Thank you for reaching out to us. Our products are cruelty free, however we do us Lanolin, Carmine and Beeswax so we are not considered Vegan."

BlackUp
"Thank you for your message and your interest for our brand.
We have a lot of our products that are vegan, but not all of them. Please find below all our products that are confirmed vegan (We are still updating our product list)- Matifying Fluid Foundation- Perfect Matifying Primer - Blush- Loose Powder- Matifying Tinted Moisturizer- Two Way Cake- Full Coverage Cream Foundation- Radiance Concealer- Contouring Stick- Sublime Powder- Contouring Powder"

BlendSmart

"Thank you for you inquiry into blendSMART. Yes we are cruelty free and vegan and apologize for the delay in responding."

Bronze Buffer
"Yes, our product is cruelty-free and vegan.
We hope this helps"

Bumble and bumble
"We appreciate the opportunity to explain that we do not have a comprehensive list of products that contain or don't contain certain ingredients.

In response to your inquiry, the ingredient listing can be found on the outer packaging of your product. Ingredient names are standard throughout the cosmetic industry and are in accordance with all applicable regulations wherever we do business.

If you are unable to find the ingredient listing for your product, please reply with the exact name and shade of the product you use, or would be interested in using, and we will be happy to email the listing to you."

Buxom
"Thanks for reaching out to Buxom. This is a great question! We have many Buxom products that are suitable for vegan customers. However, some of our products do contain one or more of the following: Carmine, Beeswax, or Lanolin-derived ingredients. Such ingredients are clearly identified on our website and can be found on the product page. Our Buxom Lash Waterproof Mascara is completely vegan-free and does not contain any of the animal ingredients listed ab"

Cartier
"
In keeping with our dedication to excellence since our Maison was founded in 1847, and with our exceptional reputation, Cartier is committed to responsible and sustainable business principles and practices. We work towards upholding such practices and principles throughout our own businesses as well as in our supply chain, by working with partners that share our values and approach to sustainable and responsible business.  Indeed, Cartier’s ethical, social and environmental commitments, which form our Corporate Responsibility Policy, extend beyond our own operations and fully recognize the responsibility we have throughout our supply chain. Our complete policy can be found as follows: http://www.cartier.us/en-us/maison/commitments/cartier-and-corporate-social-responsibility/cartier--responsible-jeweler.html
Since we use material from animal origin in some of our products, we are deeply committed to principles and practices that require animals in our supply chain to be treated with care and respect.  We have been engaging with suppliers in order to develop and implement more sustainable sourcing practices in those supply chains.  In 2009, with other luxury brands, Cartier joined Business for Social Responsibility Sustainable Luxury Working Group (SLWG), a working group with the overall objective to address sustainability issues related to the sourcing of exotic materials (sourcing conditions, environmental impact, animal welfare conditions, certification and monitoring framework). The link to the Sustainable Luxury Working Group is the following : http://www.bsr.org/en/collaboration/groups/sustainable-luxury-working-group. "

Clean

"We do not test our products on animals nor do we use any animal derived ingredients. Additionally, we do not distribute to countries that require these practices."

Colorescience

"Thank you for your Colorescience inquiry. Our products are not vegan as we use milk lipids for hydration purposes and Carmine as a color additive to some of our products."

Drybar
"Thank you for reaching out!  You can view our Cruelty Free Info at www.thedrybar.com by scrolling to the  bottom of the page and being directed to http://www.leapingbunny.org/content/drybar or view all products with product info on our site.  Thanks again!"

Elizabeth and James
"The Elizabeth and James Nirvana products are never tested on animals; however, Nirvana Rose contains an ingredient derived from beeswax which is considered an animal source."

Erno Laszlo
"Certain products may contain animal derivatives, but we are continually evaluating alternatives to animal derived ingredients. However, please note that while many of Erno Laszlo’s products are free from animal by-products, we are not involved in any vegan certification programs to officially validate the “animal-free” claim."

Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture

"Thank you for reaching out to us. This is a great question. Not all of our products are Vegan but we do have a few great products that are!

The Vegan items are:

Dream Come True Wonderful Deep Conditioning Masque
Dream Come True Pre-wash Protein Treatment
Dream Come True Scalp Exfoliator
Scent & Shine Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Scent & Shine Coconut Oil
Scent & Shine Brassica Seed Oil"

MDSolarSciences

"We are definitely “cruelty-free” as we do no animal testing. We are also gluten free, and free of oxybenzone, octinoxate and synthetic fragrance. We source Eco-cert zinc oxide which is a pure form. I am always reluctant to say organic or natural, because everyone’s definition is somewhat different. As far as entirely vegan, we are looking into that, although there are different regulatory requirements to use that label. We are sold at Credo Beauty which is a natural, clean beauty retailer with a fairly extensive “dirty ingredient” list."

St. Tropez Tanning Essentials

"Our ST TROPEZ products are manufactured using ingredients from a number of sources. We do not test our products on animals, nor do we ask others to conduct animal testing on our behalf. All of our products are testing in house and on human volunteers.
Plant derived ingredients are used wherever possible, but some of our products do contain animal by-products making them unsuitable for vegans. These ingredients are those that are humanely obtained from animals such as lanolin, beeswax and silk proteins.
If you are after information about a specific product, please contact us and we can let you know if it is suitable for vegans."

Tatcha
"Thank you so much for reaching out to TATCHA! We are grateful for the opportunity to care for your skin and hope to be able to guide you to items that are in harmony with your values.
The items in our collection which I can certainly tell you are vegan are the following:
The Water Cream
One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil
The Essence
The Deep Polish
Gentle Rice Enzyme Powder
Ageless Enriching Renewal Cream
Gold Camellia Beauty Oil
Camellia Gold Spun Lip Balm
Red Camellia Lip Balm
Original Aburatorigami Japanese Beauty Papers
Luminous Body Mist
Please be assured that we do not test on animals in any country nor do our chemists, raw material suppliers, formulators or manufacturers."

Nourish Beauty Box September 2017 Unboxing

The Nourish Beauty Box is a monthly subscription box that is 100% cruelty-free, gluten-free, and vegan. For $29.95 a month, you receive four full sized products. This is probably my favorite subscription that I receive! If you are interested in the box, you can click here.

Nourish Nails in Celebrate Life, Retail Value: $12.50
Every month we receive a nail polish from the in-house brand. This month we received this interesting metallic brown shade. I love a good metallic nail polish, so I'm excited to have this!

Seraphine Botanicals Basil + Beet Vegan Eyeshadow Palette, Retail Value: $24.00
We received another palette from this brand in the past, so I was excited to see we were getting another one. These are insanely pigmented and I can't wait to play around with them more!

Peony Cosmetics Lips of an Angel in Stockings, Retail Value: $16.00
I've only tried skincare from this brand, so I'm happy to try out a lipstick from them. The formula feels really creamy and comfortable when I applied it. I don't normally wear pinks, but I'll give it a shot!

Clean Haven Naturals Makeup Brush Cleaner, Retail Value: $6.99
I've never heard of this brand before and when I looked them up, I realized that they're an Etsy shop. I always like finding new brands from Etsy. Looking around their shop, I'm definitely going to have to check them out more. I haven't tried this yet, but I always need a good brush cleaner!

Total Retail Value: $59.49
